Dr Harsha K J MD, DM
Exceeding Expectations, One Patient at a Time
Dr. Harsha K J is a highly skilled professional specializing in various subspecialties pertaining to stroke. These include emergency stroke treatment, long-term care, neuroimaging, neuro interventions, neurosonology, as well as the evaluation and treatment of stroke risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, and more. Dr. Harsha K J's expertise extends beyond the treatment of illnesses, emphasizing a holistic approach to the primary prevention of lifestyle diseases through dietary modifications, exercise, adequate sleep, and stress reduction. Additionally, he is dedicated to promoting preventive health checks for the early detection of lifestyle diseases, enabling timely interventions to modify their progression at an early stage.
After completion of MBBS degree, I did my post-graduation in Clinical Radio diagnosis. My passion for neurosciences made me pursue a post-doctoral course in Neuroimaging and Neuroimaging & Interventional Neuroradiology at one of the most reputed Central Government Institute (SCTIMST) in INDIA. The post-doctoral course curriculum included clinical training in out-patient (OP), In-patient (IP), and neuro ICU management. Emergency neuro cases were also part of the course, managed exclusively by the Interventional Neuroradiology faculty and residents. Visiting and meetings with some of stalwarts in the field like Prof. Valavanis, Prof. Rene Chapot, and Prof. Scott Atlas allowed further upskilling of knowledge and techniques in the field.
As my passion for stroke medicine grew day by day, my deep desire to serve in the field of stroke medicine and keen interest to provide high-quality international standard care to stroke patients also grew. Stroke is 3rd leading cause of death in the World and in India, the requirement for more stroke physicians rapidly grew in India. I am fortunate to get enrolled in Fellowship in Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke) in one of the prestigious institutes of Canada – the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Here I worked with some of the pioneers in the field of Stroke Medicine like Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Shuaib, Dr. Kenneth Butcher, and many more provided much-needed deeper insights in the field of Stroke Medicine. This gave me an opportunity to learn the most crucial aspects of Stroke management. The enrolment in European Master in stroke medicine further added much-needed knowledge in the field of Stroke medicine. While continuing to work as a Stroke specialist, soon I realized the need for primary prevention of stroke. While trying to prevent stroke, we can prevent many lifestyle diseases including many of the top killer diseases in India and across the world as all these lifestyle diseases have the same common root causes! Deep in my heart, I believe I will be able to contribute significantly in the area of ‘stroke treatment and lifestyle diseases prevention’ that will make much-needed quality care and cost-effectiveness in Indian healthcare.
